THE TRUE MEANING OF THE WORD "PAROUSIA"

The English word "coming" has many different applications in the Greek language, such as qara, regel, apokalupsis, eisodos, parousia and many more. There are lots of followers of the Message who believe that the coming of the Lord was completed in 1963 when the Lord Jesus had supposedly left the Mercy Seat to open the seven Seals, they are known as the "parousia" believers. The supporters of that doctrine claim that "parousia" means the Lord is present, His presence is here with us and therefore the coming of the Lord is fulfilled and completed.

Brother Branham said time and again that the Lord is here, we know that very well, but He is present in the form of the Holy Spirit and not in His corporal Body. As far as I know, the two best available Bible references are the Young's and Strong's concordances, let us look at the Strong's definition of the word "parousia".

We believe the phrase " the LAST Judgment" is not correct, this is a Judgment of righteousness, the LAST Judgment will be the White Throne Judgment after the Millennium. We will study the two different Judgments in detail in the next chapter.

Most preachers who preach the "parousia" doctrine bring up and speak of the first part only, the presence, they do not mention the second part, the coming of the corporal Lord Jesus to judge and reward His Bride and set up His Kingdom. According to the Strong's concordance, there are 24 New Testament "parousia" Scriptures from which they derived their conclusion of part one and part two.  Two of those 24 Bible verses relate to His presence, the other 22 refer to His coming.

In the following quotes we can clearly see the two parts of the coming of the Lord, first in Spirit form in the Prophet's ministry and then in His corporal Body at the end of time.

He is the same Lord Jesus today that He was yesterday, and will be when we see Him coming. "This same Jesus that was taken up will show-- so come in like manner as you see Him go into heaven." And we know that He promised to be with us in the form of the Holy Spirit plumb to the end of the world, the end of the age.

According to the Prophet, this will repeat once more at a short and powerful latter rain outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the separation and perfection of the true Bride. Then the Lord Jesus Christ will come visibly in His corporal body, Brother Branham refers to this second part of the "parousia" as the SECOND coming.

And may the Lord Jesus Himself come and show to this waiting audience, that He is here on earth. He's not dead. He's here with us, and will be until His visible body shows in the second coming.

We could add many more references to this selection, but these 25 quotations from the beginning to the end of the Prophet's ministry are enough to confirm the twofold meaning of the word "parousia" as explained in Strong's concordance. The last verse of the "parousia" Scriptures written in the Bible is found in 1 John 2:28 which is again perfectly verified by Brother Branham.

And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he
shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed
before him at his coming.

THE APPEARING IS BEFORE THE COMING

The Apostle Paul used both words, the appearing and the coming, to describe the selfsame event.1 Timothy 6:14, 2 Timothy 4:1+8, and Titus 2:13+14 are some of the Scriptures where Paul uses the word appearing, and 1 Corinthians 1:7 + 15:23, and 1 Thessalonians 2:19 + 3:13 + 4:15 and in many more places he used the word coming for the Lord's second coming on that great and dreadful day. In the following quotations, the Prophet explains the twofold "parousia" of John's teaching in 1 John 2:28, referring to it as two different events, the appearing first, and then the coming of the Lord.

Signs are appearing everywhere just before the Coming of the Lord. Every sign post is pointing that way. It won't be long till the Rapture. Then we shall see Him Who we've loved and waited for.

THE CHANGEOVER FROM "PRESENCE" TO "COMING"

To understand the changeover from the appearing or presence of the Holy Spirit to the second coming of the Lord in His corporal body, we have to go back to the time when the Lord Jesus ascended from the earth up to Heaven to the right hand of the Father, which is also known as the Mercy Seat.

ACTS.1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he
was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold,
two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in
like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

God took Him up to Calvary and He tore Him apart, separated His soul from His body. And His body, God raised up on the third day, and took up and set on His right-hand. And on the day of Pentecost, He sent down the Spirit that was in Jesus Christ, the Covenant with the church. And when the Church comes together in the resurrection, the same Spirit was in Jesus Christ, that was tore out of Him will have to be in the Church.

God has always been on earth in some form, during the dark ages, and the Reformation, and right now at this time. God always uses foreordained gifted men to make Himself visible among us. Then time for salvation will be no more, the Holy Spirit will leave the earth and go back to His body on the Mercy Seat. We can call that a reverse of the day of Pentecost, because the works of the Holy Spirit on earth will be accomplished at that time.

And now, I believe that He will come physically in a body form someday, the same Jesus, went away. The Spirit will be taken from the church back to the body of Christ, and He will return again in physical form, just as He went away, the same Jesus eating, and drinking with--and talking with His disciples.

Here we see the change from the first part of the parousia, His presence here on earth in the form of the Holy Spirit, to the second part, His coming in His corporal body. That body cannot leave the Mercy Seat up there as long as His Spirit is here on earth, the Holy Spirit must first go back into His body again before He can vacate that Seat. This important fact is clearly confirmed by Brother Branham.

Now, notice again in the 3rd verse, or 2nd, "A throne set in heaven, and One set on the throne." Now, the same Spirit that was in the earth, had left and had gone to glory, and was setting... The same Jesus that's with us tonight in mercy was gone to glory and setting on the throne.
And he that set on the throne was to look upon as jasper and... sardine stone...

When will this change take place? The next 2 quotes explain that plain and clear. At the end of this age, when the church ages are finish, after the last one has come in and is saved, then the Holy Ghost will be taken up to go back to His nail-scared body on the Father's Throne. THEN and only then will the Lamb leave the Mercy Seat and come down to earth in His corporal body to take the Book out of the right hand of Him on the Throne as explained in Revelation 5. That will be the second part of the "parousia." The Prophet's teaching about this subject is in line with Strong's concordance, which says: "The coming, arrival, advent: esp. the future visible return from Heaven of Jesus, to raise the dead, hold the... Judgment, and set up formally and gloriously the kingdom of God."

Now, notice: But it's to be revealed when the Lamb leaves His intercessory place from the Father. (Now, that's Revelation 5). Now, He takes the Book of Seals, the Book of Seals or a Book sealed with Seals, breaks them and shows them (look) at the end of the age now, after the intercessory is over; the church ages has done finished up.

And when He brings the last one in... He's setting at the right hand of God tonight doing His mediatorial work. THE "COMING" OF THE LORD IS BEFORE THE RESURRECTION

We are still in the "appearing" period and will remain there till the last sheep has accepted the endtime Message and is sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of Redemption, which is the day of the coming of the Lord. The following quotations are very important, they reveal to us that the physical, corporal Lord Jesus will come from the Father's Throne BEFORE the resurrection of the dead in Christ and the changing of our bodies. The coming Kinsman Redeemer has to redeem our souls first before the dust of the earth can release and restore the glorified bodies of the saints.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, looking for Him to come the second time in glory to redeem all those from the dust of the earth that sleeps that's died in Him.

All these quotes tell us that the second coming of the Lord in His corporal body will take place before our bodies will be transformed to glorification. Why must it be like that? We understand that in Genesis 3:17-19, after the fall of Eve and Adam, the Lord God put those curses upon the dust of the earth from which our bodies are made, and He pronounced death upon their bodies, and consequently upon ours also. Every one of these quotes deserves a careful study to get a clear picture of this most important event, nobody can afford to misunderstand the Prophet on this vital subject. Let us consider another four verses chosen from the 24 "parousia" Scriptures in the Bible. They are 2 Thessalonians 2:1, 1 Thessalonians 2:19, and 3:13 and 4:15.

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our 
Lord Jesus Christ and by our gathering together unto him,

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? 
Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ 
at his coming?

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness 
before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus 
Christ with all his saints.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which 
are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not 
prevent them which are asleep.

These four "parousia" verses pertain to the second part, the coming and future visible return from Heaven of Jesus. The Apostle Paul tells the Thessalonians that he and all his churches will be gathered together unto Him with all the Lord's saints of all ages, the living and the dead (asleep). From Adam to the last one, everyone will be present whose name is on the Lamb's Book of Life, all will be judged to be unblameable in holiness before God when the bloody Lamb comes from the Mercy Seat to take the Book to loose those seven other Seals on the backside of the Book.

Where is that Kinsman Redeemer? Who's able to take it?
And it come from Adam, all the way down through all the apostles, and prophets, and everything else, and nobody was found. Now, what about that? Nobody in Heaven, nobody on earth, nobody that ever lived. Elijah was standing there. Moses was standing there. All the apostles was standing there. All the ones that had died-- all the holy man, Job, the sages. Everyone was standing there, and nobody was worthy even to look at the Book, let alone take it and break the Seals!

THE "PAROUSIA" IN REVELATION 10, AND REVELATION 1

Without this revelation of the two parts of the parousia, Brother Branham's different explanations of Revelation 10 could not be understood correctly. In many places he mentioned the presence of the mighty Angel of Revelation 10:1 in the form of the Holy Spirit during his ministry, and in other quotes he refers to Him as the coming Lord Jesus, and as the Lion and the Judge, after time has run out.

REVELATION.10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven,
clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow [was] upon his head, and his face [was] as
it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

When the Light, which you see on the picture tonight, that's been proven to be a Supernatural Being by scientific research... To me it was the same Light that struck down St. Paul. Is the same Light that led the children of Israel by night. Did you notice here, this Angel, He was clothed in a cloud. See, He was a cloud by day. Now, that same Light... As to people not understanding, first thought that it was wrong, that I was just saying that. But the Holy Spirit happened to have the scientific instruments, and the people there, for a vindication, and took the picture of It several times.

This is a very striking quote, Brother Branham tells us that this mighty Angel, clothed in a cloud, was photographed several times during the time of his ministry. He also tells us that this mighty Angel of Revelation 10:1 is the same Angel found in Revelation 1:13. But Revelation 1:13 is still in the future, it was not fulfilled during the Prophet's ministry, it is a prophesy which will take place on the Lord's day.

In the first part of the “parousia,” we have these various pictures of the mighty Angel in the form of the Pillar of Fire photographed in the presence of His Prophet, as explained in Revelation 10:1.

REVELATION.1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a fur- nace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

At the end of the age, that Pillar of Fire will go back to His body on the Mercy Seat. Then, on the Lord's day, at the Judgment of the righteous saints of all ages, we will meet the same mighty Angel, the Lord Jesus Christ in His corporal body. That will be the second part of the "parousia" when He will come as the Lion and Judge as He is described in Revelation 1:13–15. The Prophet tells us that "girt about the paps" means He wears a sash over His shoulder like the Judges did in the Old Testament, and hair like wool represents the white wig of "supreme authority" worn by the Judge. Eyes like a flame of fire and feet like brass also speak of Judgment, because fire and brass represents Judgment in the Bible.

Then if He is the same, He's got to be everything the same except the corporal body. Now, that Body, when It comes, time shall be no more, how many knows that? Yes, when Jesus comes in His literal Body... But He come now in the form of the Holy Ghost. And He lives in His Church.

The mighty Angel came in the form of the Holy Ghost to reveal all the mysteries through the seventh angel as predicted in Revelation 10:1-4. The seventh angel has come and gone, but the mighty Angel of the Covenant is still here on earth till the end, then He will swear that time shall be no more.

Others had guessed at in the denominational age, but see, he must be this man, the seventh angel of Revelation 10:1-4 is a... The seventh angel has the mysteries of God given to him and finishes all the mystery been left off down through the denominational ages.

The seven and last one of these seals, when they're opened, is found in Revelations the 10th chapter; there was a mighty Angel (which was Christ) came down and put one foot on the land and one on the sea, and raised up His hand, and says, "The day is finished. Time is run out. It's all over. Time shall be no more." The last one of them is Revelations 10, foot on land and on sea; time had run out; redemption is over; NOW He comes in as the Lion. He was a Lamb then; NOW He comes in as Lion of the tribe of Judah.

These last two quotes, pertaining to Revelation 10, would look like a contradiction if we do not know about the twofold “parousia,” first the PRESENCE of the mighty Angel in the form of the Holy Spirit to reveal all the mysteries, and then the COMING of the same mighty Angel in His corporal body as the Lion and Judge to open the seventh and last one of the Seals, which is the opening of the seven last Seals to all the gathered saints of all ages on the great and dreadful day of the Lord. The next two quotes are taken from different sermons, but they confirm the same thing again.

What's happened upon Mount Sunset? God confirming His Word. That's what all this noise is about. Notice, it's God fulfilling His promised Word again, of Revelation 10:1 to 7, "And in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel's Message, the mystery of God should be finished." The hidden mystery of Revelation 10:1 to 7, the last message to the last church age.

Revelations 10, at the end we find when the last Seal was broke, we find the Angel standing with one foot on the land and one on the sea, with His hands up to heaven, and a rainbow over His head, swearing by Him that lives forever and ever, that time has run out on the last Seal. And you wait till we get in them Seals and see where that Seal's at. After you find the seventy of weeks, then see where the Seals are. Time has run out. Redemption is over. He is now the Lion and the Judge. He's your Saviour this morning, but one day He'll be your Judge.

At the time when the last Seal will be broken, at the second part of the parousia, at the completion of Revelation 10 when time has run out, the mighty Angel, the Lord Jesus will come forth as the Lion and the Judge. That is where the seven last Seals are, that is the time when He will be my Judge.

The next quote takes us back again to the first part of the parousia, the opening of the seven written Seals in March 1963. The mighty Angel of the Covenant came every day in the form of the Pillar of Fire into the room where the Prophet was waiting, to open one Seal at the time to him alone. Then at the evening of the same day, Brother Branham preached parts of it at the Branham Tabernacle.

... I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with

Now, we saw the same thing, which was Christ. And we know Christ is always the Messenger to the Church. All right. He's called a Pillar of Fire, the Angel of the Covenant and so forth.

and he set his right foot on the sea, and his left... on the earth....

If you notice that's Christ (See?), 'cause He in the Old Testament was called the Angel of the Covenant, and He's directly coming to the Jews now, for the Church is finished. See? All right.

You remember that Angel in Revelations 1? Same thing. Angel is a messenger, and He's a Messenger to Israel. See? The Church has been raptured. See? Now, or fixing to be raptured. He comes for His Church.

This quote refers to the last part of His coming. Bro Branham connects it with Revelation 10 again, the second part of it, and he says that Revelation 1 is the same thing. The physical Lord Jesus is directly coming to the Jews because the 144000 will be sealed at His coming, and then on to His church, to meet the raptured living saints and the dead in Christ to fully redeem us yonder before we come back to pick up our glorified bodies. Then we will be “fixing to be raptured” together to the wedding supper.

It is very sad that the most important contents of the following quote has by and large been missed. Brother Branham explains plainly and clearly what the purpose of the opening of the seven written Seals was in March 1963. The parousia of the Lamb in the form of the Pillar of Fire described, revealed, explained, made clear the PLAN of Redemption through His Prophet, foretelling what will take place on the day of Redemption, at the END of the ages, after the last one has come in. That explains WHEN it is going to be done, it is obviously still a future event.

Redemption, it's all described in here. All that what Christ will do at the END will be revealed to us this week in the Seven Seals if God will let us. See? All right; it'll be revealed. And revealed as the Seals break and are released to us, then we can see what this great PLAN of redemption is and WHEN and HOW it's going to be done. It's all hidden in this Book of mystery here. It's sealed up with Seven Seals... And so the Lamb is the only One Who can break them.

Who was able to open the Seals; Who was able to open this Book?" See? The Angel asked it; John saw it, and he said, "Now, Who's worthy? Let Him..." Oh, my, maybe I'm just feeling this this a way. "But, let Him," said the Angel, "let Him..." Here is the Book of Redemption. Here is the PLAN of redemption. Here is the only way you'll ever be redeemed, for here is the title deed to redemption of the whole heavens and earth. "Let Him come forward, if He will." Oh, my. "Now speak or forever hold his peace. Let Him come forward and claim this Book. Who's worthy to do it?" And John said there was no man in heaven found worthy; no man on earth found worthy; no man beneath the earth that ever lived and died was found worthy; no man was found worthy.

"Here is the only way you'll ever be redeemed..." That statement must be regarded by every true believer as most important, a event which nobody can afford to miss. That will be the fulfillment of the PLAN of Redemption when the Lord Jesus, the Kinsman Redeemer, will come from the Mercy Seat at His second part of the parousia to fully redeem and reward all the gathered saints of all ages up there in Heaven. The living saints, with our bodies remaining on earth, and all the dead with their bodies still under the earth in the grave, we will be judged in righteousness on that glorious day of the Lord, and then come back to earth to pick up the glorified bodies.

2 TIMES 7 SEALS CONFIRMED FURTHER

The correct interpretation of the twofold meaning of the word "parousia" confirms again the truth of 2 times 7 Seals opened at different times. Let us examine the following quotes and compare those on the left side with the paired one on the right side. Those quotes on the left side correspond with the "appearing" time and the 1963 Sealopening, the quotes on the right side explain the time of His "coming" and the loosening of the other seven Seals.

One of those 7 Angels anointed the Prophet each night to preach the seven written Seals in March 1963, but at the end of time no Angel could take that place, only the bloody Lamb can take the Book and loose the seven last Seals.

The actual Sealopening in 1963 took place in a private room where the Pillar of Fire met the Prophet to open the "little Book". But the "great Book" will be opened by the Kinsman Redeemer when the days of grace are finished. Like in February 1964, and still at this point in time, this is still a future event, the greatest event in human history as the Prophet calls it.

Not all the 1963 revealed mysteries were disclosed to the public, the rest of the Revelation of Jesus Christ will only be known at the "coming" part of the "parousia". Redemption will stop when the last soul has come in, then the Lamb will come and take the Book of Redemption and loose the Seals thereof.

The 1963 Sealopening was basically a lecture for the believers to understand the history of the church, and what time we live in and what will happen at the end of time. If we believe and understand the Message correctly by the help of the Holy Spirit, then we are called and sealed and we will be confirmed as such when "them Seals" will be opened under the sixth Seal, the Judgment Seal, when grace and mercy has ceased.

There were only a few hundred believers present at the 1963 Sealopening, but there will be hundreds of millions attending that other Sealopening, all the saints of all ages, from Adam to the last one including me. When we reach that great windup time at the Judgment Seat of Christ, we will know we made it, we will be safely home for all Eternity.

Trusting that this chapter will be helpful to many saints, mostly to those "parousia" believers who have only known half the truth about this doctrine because their leaders knowingly and wilfully reglect the very important second part of the "parousia". My experience is that most of them are fiercely against this proven fact, even so they have not one single quote or Scripture to certify their omission. We close this subject with John 8:32, a promise from the Lord Jesus Himself to every genuine believer in His Word.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
